Honey Bee Sales
We sell only the most successful 5 (deep) frame honey bee nucleus colonies, containing at least 3 frames of brood and a marked queen. We require a $100 nonrefundable deposit to reserve them for customers, with the balance due at pickup, cash or credit card (with a 3% service fee). If, however, after a deposit is made and we are unable to fill the order, the customer will receive a full refund.
Shipping for overwintered and spring honey bee nucleus colonies is not available. Honey Bees must be picked up at Millbrook Road Apiary, 5275 Millbrook Road, Wooster, 44691, at a prearranged time. We will contact you when it is time for you to collect up your nuc, which will be, weather permitting, late April/May for overwintered nucs, late June/July for spring nucs. We will prepare your nucs for you by transferring the entire colony into a Jester cardboard nuc box for transport. If the box is not picked up at the scheduled time, we will retain the deposit and restore the colony to our yard.
The bees will not last in the transfer box, so the customer must have a permanent hive ready in advance to receive the nuc. The responsibility for the bees passes to customers once the bees leave the farm, and the purchase is final and nonrefundable. Millbrook Road Apiary will not be responsible or liable for loss of bees or nucs due to overheating once they are received by the customer. It is the responsibility and duty of the customer to ensure that nucs are kept cool on the journey home, and out of direct sun until they are installed in hives.
The success of a colony is ultimately the responsibility of the beekeeper. No refunds. However, we are more than willing to help with the process, including suggestions for woodenware.
Spring nucs are $175 per colony, and overwintered nucs are $225 per colony.
